She’d gotten a tip from a rather scared individual in the next town over - a bit bigger than Penguin Village - and had done her best to modify the radar to try and be just a little bit more accurate than what it was. His name was Vinvent and he was a victim of a petty crime. Traversing the Diablo Desert, he’d been ambushed by a gang that operated within the desert - robbing people and the like as they made their livelihood off the hard work of others. Honestly, Zerori was impressed that they’d managed to get away with it for so long. So Vincent - poor, fucking Vincent - had put out a bounty on them in the hopes that someone was stupid enough to help him get his stuff back.
Naturally, no one that knew anything about the rogues gave a shit to help him. That was until Zerori was listening on the list of things that had apparently been a part of the inventory stolen. A glass orb with stars in it was among the shipment that he’d been transporting to a new museum and now he had nothing to bring and get paid for. Zerori didn’t give a damn about his financial troubles but immediately told him that she’d see what she could do about the gang roaming the sands.
He REALLY wanted her to try and retrieve his stuff but, Zerori might have left before she could remember that part of the deal.
Now, here she was - traversing the sands in common clothes (that DIDN’T make her want to die from the heat) with a dummy satchel hung over her shoulder that hopefully looked enticing enough to make her a target. All the while, Zerori had been occasionally pressing the button of the radar to see if there was any movement associated with the signal she’d gotten.
“I could just go find these motherfuckers,” Zerori muttered, sweat pouring from her brow as she narrowed her eyes on the horizon of the bright sky and blazing sun, “-but these guys sound like they could use an actual job.”
She really wasn’t sure how long it took but if she had to guess-? She must have been out here for at least an hour. Maybe more. Thankfully, her plan hadn’t gone to shit - the sound of a jackrabbit class speeder buzzing in the distance and getting closer. She looked up as it buzzed past her by mere feet, pulling ahead and making a wide turn as they were surely scouting her out.
Once they’d finished their pass, the sound of multiple speeders revving up was the cue Zerori needed to know she was getting targeted. “Alright, then-” She chuckled, looking up and directly at the pack of desert pirates converging on her. In typical gang-like fashion, they circled around her with laughter, chains and firing off dummy shots from blasters into the sky meant to intimidate her. She had them where she wanted them, though, so there wasn’t any need to act like some damsel in distress.
One had in fact decided to stop right in front of her, his voice annoyingly loud, “HEEEEEY! Whatcha got there?” He stepped off of his speeder to approach her with a lanky swagger. Without a beat, Zerori just tossed her bag from her shoulder over to him, thoroughly confusing the pirate as he barely caught it. “What’s this?!”
“A gift,” Zerori simply said, bringing out her radar one more time and giving it a click. There it was. Somewhere nearby and likely among these guys. “I’m actually here for something and I think you guys can help me with that.”
The pirate in front of her scoffed, “-And why would we help you?”
Without missing a beat, Zerori would reach for the holster of her own blaster and immediately disable a passing speeder - throwing it’s rider off. In the span of a few seconds, every single one of their modes of transportation were left to smoke in the sands and most of them weren’t dressed for heat.
With a flip of her blaster, Zerori grinned, “Because I’m the last person you wanna refuse.” Before showing off a little insignia of the Interstellar Inc she had emblazoned across her shirt. “Now, uh… I’m looking for a little orb with some stars in it. Got anything for me and I’ll have a job for all of you.”
